Fireside Series: John C. Fremont Slept Here

February 22, 2026 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

$10

Loren Irving is a professional photographer and historian of the 2nd John Fremont Expedition, which came through Oregon in 1843.  The expedition of 25 members and 104 horses and mules camped near Sisters on Wychus Creek in December 1843.  Mr. Irving located and photographed 37 of their camp sites in Oregon and will be sharing these photographs and many stories with us.  Other familiar members of this party were Kit Carson and young Billy Chinook.

On the Board of Directors at the Deschutes Historical Society, he was the Curator for the “Finding Fremont: Pathfinder of the West” exhibit created in conjunction with the Nevada State Museum, which traveled throughout the Northwest for several years, showing locally at the Deschutes Historical Museum.

The Fireside Series is hosted at the Sisters Fire Station’s Community Hall, 301 S. Elm St. Tickets are $10, or free to our members, and sold at the door, which opens at 1:00 pm. Seating is first-come, first-served. If you have questions, call Diane at 541-610-6323.
