Fall Colors Wander

October 21, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Tom Wainwright for a fall colors wander at the Metolius Preserve. Come on a slow-paced stroll to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of fall, and learn a bit about the natural world too. From ponderosa pine forest to lush creekside corridors, the Metolius region boasts a unique combination of wetter plants from the west side of the Cascades along with the drier eastern Cascade vegetation. We’ll explore this fascinating transition zone while enjoying golden bracken fern and larch and searching for scarlet vine maple. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

Hike Rating: This is an easy 2-3 mile walk on Preserve trails.

Route: This hike will start at the North Trailhead of the Metolius Preserve and follow Preserve trails. Terrain will be uneven at times.

Elevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.
