DESCRIPTION:Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Robin Galloway for Nature Kids! Get outside and explore the nature of Central Oregon on guided family nature walks just for kids ages 8-12. Kids and their families can explore\, imagine\, and grow through hands-on activities and experiences outside. During May and August\, we’ll explore the world of birds! Learn all about bird watching\, practice using binoculars\, and check out nests and feathers while you see who lives at Land Trust Preserves. \nMeet other families\, learn more about the natural world around us\, and have fun! Offered on the third Friday of the month May-August at Land Trust Preserves near Sisters. Perfect for kids ages 8-12 with a grown-up in tow. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nHike Rating: This is an easy for kids\, up to 1 mile walk. Distance will vary depending on age and ability.

Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nHike Rating: This is an easy\, less than 1 mile walk on a gravel trail. Portions may be off-trail through a grassy meadow. \nRoute: This hike will start at the Camp Polk Meadow Preserve kiosk\, follow a gravel trail\, and then venture off-trail into the meadow. Terrain will be uneven at times. \nElevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Martha Lussenhop for a history wander at Camp Polk Meadow Preserve and the nearby Camp Polk Cemetery. Camp Polk Meadow Preserve has been an important place for people for thousands of years. Today it is known as a local nature preserve that is home to a variety of plants and animals\, with portions of the Preserve restored to improve habitat. Learn more about what brought Indigenous people to the meadow seasonally\, and see evidence of settlers making a living there. Then\, we will walk up an adjacent knoll to the Camp Polk Cemetery. With both traditional and unconventional memorials\, we’ll learn about some of the early settlers who were buried there. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nHike Rating: This is an easy 1-2 mile walk on a gravel trail and dirt roads. \nRoute: This hike will start at the Camp Polk Meadow Preserve kiosk\, follow a gravel trail\, and then go along a dirt road to the cemetery. Terrain will be uneven at times. \nElevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.
