DESCRIPTION:Join Deschutes Land Trust and Melinda Walker for a spring hike at Whychus Canyon Preserve. Search for balsamroot\, pale blue flax\, and other beauties all while enjoying the varied terrain and trails at the Preserve. Enjoy hiking among ancient junipers as you make your way to a rocky outcropping for a canyon overlook and mountain views. Hike Rating: This is a moderate 3 mile hike on Whychus Canyon Preserve hiking trails. Route: This hike will start at the Whychus Canyon Preserve kiosk and follow trails partway down into the Whychus Creek canyon. Terrain will be uneven at times. Elevation gain/loss: This hike is moderate with 150′ of elevation gain/loss. \nRegistration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

Explore the starring role that Camp Polk played in the history of Central Oregon as one of the original stopping places on the Santiam Wagon Road. Admire the craftsmanship of the Hindman barn (one of Deschutes County’s oldest structures) and imagine what living in the Hindman house would have been like for the Hindman family. Hike Rating: This is an easy\, less than 1 mile walk on a gravel trail. Route: This hike will start at the Camp Polk Meadow Preserve kiosk and follow a gravel trail. Terrain will be uneven at times. Elevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike. \nRegistration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.
