DESCRIPTION:Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Coleen Pidgeon for an early fall color hike at the Metolius Preserve. Hike around the northern portion of the Preserve to learn about this unique forest that combines plants and trees from the west side of the Cascades along with the drier eastern Cascade vegetation. Enjoy the reds and oranges of vine maple and brilliant yellow of larch trees (fingers crossed they’ve started to change colors!)\, all while we watch and listen for fall birds in the forest and along Lake Creek. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nHike Rating: This is an easy 3 mile hike on Preserve trails. \nRoute: This hike will start at the North Trailhead of the Metolius Preserve and follow Preserve trails. Terrain will be uneven at times. \nElevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.

DESCRIPTION:This weekly No-Limit Texas Hold ’em tournament has been going on upstairs at the Saloon since 2010. Players should show up Wednesdays between 5:15 and 5:25 to sign up with Pat upstairs before the dealing starts at 5:30. If you arrive late\, you can still buy in until 6:30. \nIt’s a $20 buy-in every Wednesday\, but to keep things interesting\, they go through the following rotation of different tournament rules: \n1st Wednesday of the month: Just one rebuy allowed before the 6:30 break. \n2nd Wednesday of the month: Unlimited rebuys until 6:30\, so the tournament might go a little later\, but usually there’s more prize money. \n3rd Wednesday of the month: Just one rebuy allowed before the 6:30 break. \nLast Wednesday of the month: It’s an additional $5 for “Bounty” play. You keep the $5 bounty from each player you knock out of the tournament.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Martha Lussenhop for a history wander at Camp Polk Meadow Preserve and the nearby Camp Polk Cemetery. Camp Polk Meadow Preserve has been an important place for people for thousands of years. Today it is known as a local nature preserve that is home to a variety of plants and animals\, with portions of the Preserve restored to improve habitat. Learn more about what brought Indigenous people to the meadow seasonally\, and see evidence of settlers making a living there. Then\, we will walk up an adjacent knoll to the Camp Polk Cemetery. With both traditional and unconventional memorials\, we’ll learn about some of the early settlers who were buried there. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nHike Rating: This is an easy 1-2 mile walk on a gravel trail and dirt roads. \nRoute: This hike will start at the Camp Polk Meadow Preserve kiosk\, follow a gravel trail\, and then go along a dirt road to the cemetery. DESCRIPTION:Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Tom Wainwright for a fall colors wander at the Metolius Preserve. Come on a slow-paced stroll to enjoy the sights\, sounds\, and smells of fall\, and learn a bit about the natural world too. From ponderosa pine forest to lush creekside corridors\, the Metolius region boasts a unique combination of wetter plants from the west side of the Cascades along with the drier eastern Cascade vegetation. We’ll explore this fascinating transition zone while enjoying golden bracken fern and larch and searching for scarlet vine maple. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nHike Rating: This is an easy 2-3 mile walk on Preserve trails. \nRoute: This hike will start at the North Trailhead of the Metolius Preserve and follow Preserve trails. Terrain will be uneven at times. \nElevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.

DESCRIPTION:This weekly No-Limit Texas Hold ’em tournament has been going on upstairs at the Saloon since 2010. Players should show up Wednesdays between 5:15 and 5:25 to sign up with Pat upstairs before the dealing starts at 5:30. If you arrive late\, you can still buy in until 6:30. \nIt’s a $20 buy-in every Wednesday\, but to keep things interesting\, they go through the following rotation of different tournament rules: \n1st Wednesday of the month: Just one rebuy allowed before the 6:30 break. \n2nd Wednesday of the month: Unlimited rebuys until 6:30\, so the tournament might go a little later\, but usually there’s more prize money. \n3rd Wednesday of the month: Just one rebuy allowed before the 6:30 break. \nLast Wednesday of the month: It’s an additional $5 for “Bounty” play. You keep the $5 bounty from each player you knock out of the tournament.

This beautiful\, privately-owned property includes wetlands\, quaking aspens\, mixed conifer forests\, and outstanding habitat for wildlife\, including kokanee and Chinook salmon. We’ll take a walk along Spring Creek and the Metolius River to observe kokanee salmon spawning during their annual rite. Learn about efforts to restore Chinook and sockeye salmon to the Metolius River and its tributaries. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nHike Rating: This is a moderate ~2 mile hike. Portions will be on established trails and through grassy meadows. \nRoute: This hike will start at the Camp Sherman store and follow the Metolius River trail. Once on the Spring Creek property\, trails are through grassy meadows. Terrain will be uneven at times. \nElevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.

Choose between the all-women’s trail half marathon featuring single-track in the Deschutes National Forest (on the Peterson Ridge Trail system) with some pretty stellar views or take part in the 5K and 10K road race that winds through scenic downtown Sisters. All races cross the same finish line\, welcoming all to enjoy the beautiful FivePine campus under the towering Ponderosa pines. \nThe Happy Girls Sisters half marathoners will enjoy spectacular single track beginning and ending at FivePine Lodge (at an elevation of 3182 feet). The course weaves through the Deschutes National Forest offering stunning views and rolling terrain amongst the Ponderosa pines. There will be some elevation change and some climbing in the beginning\, so come ready for a challenge. Sections of the trail are narrow and rocky. \n10K and 5K runners can expect a mix of pavement and trail on this fast and fun course that winds through downtown Sisters. The course is relatively flat\, so expect fast times!

Along the way\, there will be opportunities to share what you are observing\, and we will close with a final group reflection and tea. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event. \nInspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku\, which translates to “taking in the atmosphere of the forest through the senses\,” forest bathing is a guided experience of slowing down and being present in a natural setting. Research over several decades has linked this practice to a wide range of benefits\, including reduced stress\, improved sleep\, lower blood pressure and inflammation\, and strengthened immune function. At its heart\, forest bathing is about remembering our connection to nature\, to one another\, and to ourselves.
